Visits to local ECEC services

Visits to ECEC services during the Pre-conference Day (Tuesday 29th August 2017).


Delegates wishing to visit any of the ECEC services listed below are required to arrange and pay for their own transfers.

Bologna bus service runs quite frequently, approximately every 10 mins. Timetables and routes can be found by using the travel planner service available on the bus company website (TPER).

Loris Malaguzzi International Centre Municipal Infant-Toddler Centres and Reggio Emilia Municipal Preschools - Reggio Emilia

Description of the visit 

 

  • 10:30-13:00 Introduction to the educational project of Reggio Emilia
  • 13:30-14:15 Visit to the Exhibitions and Ateliers at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre
  • 14:30-16:30 Visit to 1 municipal infant-toddler centre and to 1 municipal preschool (bus transportation from and to the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre is included) 
Duration of the visit  10:00 - 17:00
No of places available  Places are limited. Once the maximum capacity is reached, registrations will be closed. For the visit to the infant-toddler centre and to the school, The main group will be split in smaller groups, if necessary. 
How to get to the Service 

Suggested train travel:

- Outward trip: train departing from Bologna Central Train Station at 9:18, arriving in Reggio Emilia at 9:52
- Return trip: train departing from Reggio Emilia at 17:00, arriving at Bologna at 17:38

Return train tickets are approximately 20€, but prices may vary slightly depending on when they are bought.Exact prices and tickets can be obtained from the train company website

The Loris Malaguzzi International Centre is located 5-10 min walk away from the Reggio Emilia train station.

Name of the Service  

Nursery and Childcare centre ‘ABBA’

Description of the visit The visit includes:
  • welcome and presentation 
  • a brief introduction of the Cooperative Cadiai, who are managing the service 
  • the description of the nursery and kindergarten from the management and the pedagogical point of view, followed by a visit to the facility. 
  • meeting the staff responsible for the management and pedagogical coordination of the service and a Q and A session.
Duration of the visit   The visit will start in front of the childcare centre at 14:00 and will end at 16:30

How to get to the Service   Address: Via Cesare Abba, 11, Bologna
Take bus 11  from Via Indipendenza (Autostazione) to Gianni Falchi (located 3 min walk away from the centre). The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

Name of the Service   Nursery and Childcare centre “Pollicino”
Description of the visit The visit includes:
- welcome and presentation
- a brief introduction of the Cooperative Cadiai, who are managing the service
- the description of the nursery and kindergarten from the management and the pedagogical point of view, followed by a visit to the facility.
- meeting the staff responsible for the management and pedagogical coordination of the service followed by a Q and A session.
Duration of the visit  The visit will start in front of the childcare centre at 10:00 a.m. and will end around 12:30 a.m.
No of places available  Since children will be attending the service on the day of the visit, the number of places available are limited to 15.

Nido d'infanzia FILONIDO

Description of the visit   Filonido is a nursery school built in Bologna in 2011.
The nursery is constructed according to today's quality standard, with high environmental compatibility of materials, based on a design conceived to combine architectural and structural solutions, to the needs of care and education of children. The pedagogical coordinator who is responsible for Filonido will be happy to welcome guests and introduce them to the visit. She will show them the four childcare sections, the common spaces and the large garden, dedicated to outdoor education. She will also describe the setup of a typical day in the nursery, the educational planning, characterised by a very flexible organisation.
The ways of access to educational early childhood services in the city of Bologna will also be explained.

Description of the visit  Marameo is a nursery school built in Bologna in 2008.
The nursery is constructed according to today's quality standard, with high environmental compatibility of materials, based on a design conceived to combine architectural and structural solutions to the needs of care and education of children. The pedagogical coordinator who is responsible of Marameo will be happy to welcome guests and introduce them to the visit. Name of the Service   Fondazione Golinelli - a private foundation that deals in integrated education, training and culture   
Description of the visit   The visit will begin with an introduction to the history and mission of Fondazione Golinelli, the only Italian a private foundation based on the model of the large American philanthropic foundations, with the goal of promoting education and training, spreading culture, and encouraging the intellectual and ethical growth of young people and society.
In particular, through images and video, we will illustrate the projects and activities of ‘Scuola delle idee’, one of the six areas of the Foundation, which introduces children and young people from 18 months to 13 years to the importance of the scientific method, creativity enhancement, cultural integration, the ability to cooperate and to take advantage of the endless possibilities offered by the changing world.
The visit will go on with a guided tour inside Opificio Golinelli, the citadel for knowledge and culture.
Finally, the group will be led to the visit of African Vibes, an exhibition of works by African artists from the collection of Marino and Paola Golinelli.

From A13 (Padova): exit “Bologna Arcoveggio” to Bologna/Arcoveggio and continue on to Tangenziale Nord Bologna.
From A1-A22 (VERONA, MODENA, MILANO o FIRENZE): exit Casalecchio/Bologna Centro, follow signs for Porrettana/Casalecchio Centro and get in Asse Attrezzato Sud–Ovest.
From A14 (IMOLA-ANCONA-TARANTO): exit Bologna S. Lazzaro to Bologna Centro/Aeroporto Bologna, continue on Tangenziale Nord.
By bus:
From the centre of Bologna: take bus number 13 from Via Farini/piazza Malpighi/via Lame to Borgo Panigale and stop at Santa Viola bus stop.
From Bologna Centrale railway station: take bus number 35 to Fac. Ingegneria/Ospedale Maggiore and stop at Rotonda Granatieri – Avis bus stop (no buses on this line on Saturdays and Sundays).
From Borgo Panigale railway station: take bus number 13 to San Ruffillo and stop at Santa Viola bus stop.
